During postpartum days, this entire process is accelerated, making hair fall out without new immediate growth.

Another reason for hair issues after pregnancy is the increased stress a woman is under. Having a baby is very difficult. A new mother sleeps less, usually eats poorly, and may be vitamin deficient. All of these things affects the immune system and encourage hair thinning.

Ways To Regrow Hair After Pregnancy

Even though there is no true miracle way to grow hair, there are a few ways to get things back to normal after pregnancy.

  • Lower Stress: After stress levels are lowered, normal hair growth usually returns. To reduce stress, a woman can meditate or enjoy a hobby. It will also keep a new mother in a calmer state of being to care for her newborn baby.
  • Improve Diet: Eating a proper diet will help to keep stress in check and supply adequate nutrition that is needed to keep hair growing strong. It is important to eat a balanced diet filled with fruits, vegetables, protein, dairy, and whole grains. It may be tempting to crash diet to lose the extra baby weight, but this may only increase hair thinning and bring on health problems. It is also vital to heat well when breastfeeding as well.
  • Exercise: Exercise increases circulation and blood flow to all body parts including the scalp. When the scalp gets adequate blood, the hair follicles become filled with oxygen and needed nutrients. This can increase hair growth. Walking, jogging, and swimming are all good exercises which will boost circulation.
  • Be Nice to Hair: It is important to use gentle treatments in hair after childbirth. It is not wise to use harsh chemicals like perms, relaxers, or dyes immediately after pregnancy. It is also best to keep hair out of tight ponytails and braids. At bath time, hair should be gently towel dried instead of using a blow dryer. It will also be helpful to stay away from curling or flat irons as well.

During pregnancy, a woman’s hair seems to be thicker and fuller than ever. However, after the baby is born, this hair begins to fall out in clumps. Instead of being too concerned, it is essential to understand that this is normal. Hormones are fluctuating and it is having an effect on hair. Within a few months things should return to normal. In the meantime, to treat postpartum hair loss, it is best to avoid stress, eat right, exercise, and use gentle treatment on the hair.
